It's like I'm in high school again except way better because it's nothigh school at all.

2009 was a big (HUGE!) year for me reading-wise.

And I'm thinking this year will be even bigger because I went and joined a club. A book club. Or I created one. Or I helped create one. Whatever.

The point is this: 2010 isn’t just about the tiger anymore. It’s about the book club. And the Edward doll (or "action figure" if you prefer) (The Husband hates it when I call it a "doll"), but I'm not ready to go into too much detail about that yet, so...

I'm in a book club now. With ten other women. We started reading our first book on the first, naturally, and started with The Lucky One. So far I've only discovered one minor drawback. Well, one in addition to our argument over how to pronounce Thibault's name. (Is it Tih-boh? Or Tee-boh?)

We all love to read and, since several of us work together, we talk about books constantly. We were so excited to start a book club, but now there's almost too much excitement. We're finally reading the same book! At the same time! And I can't wait to hear what you think! And see what page you're on! And hear what you think will happen next! And exchange exclamation points! Hooray!

It makes it a bit hard to focus. Once I'm at home, alone, with the TV off, I'm finally able to relax and let myself get into the flow of the story and stop thinking about what everyone else is doing/thinking/feeling and I find I'm very much enjoying the book.

But the real problem is this: I'm next to choose a book. And I have to announce our next book on the 15th which means I'm quickly running out of time and this is just the sort of decision that makes me freak out. There are too many options!

Do I choose a book I’ve already read and loved? What if everyone hates it?

Do I choose something totally new? What if I hate it?

I’d choose a book I have yet to read by one of my favorite authors, except, with the last few SEP books I read I've done run out. That's it. So now it's either find someone new to love or… wait. (Judith McNaught, I’m looking at you. Tick tock, woman.) And I’d love to find someone new, but… who???

So, peeps? I’m turning to you. Any advice? Thoughts? Book or author recommendations?

Now remember who you’re dealing with here. I'd really love to be one of those people who’s all I'LL READ ANYTHING, but I’m not that person at all. So, while I’m totally open to all of your recommendations, let’s face facts and accept that I need at least a little romance action. Wait. I don't mean action action, I just meant action as in romance. You know, a love story. I certainly wasn't suggesting... oh, never mind...

That's all. The end. And thank you.

  1. If you enjoy reading Stephanie Meyer's Twilight saga, you should read The Host (also by her). It is an amazing book.

  5. PUH-LEASE....As if I could suggest anything!? I'm halfway through Jacob in Breaking Dawn for the 3rd time! My husband says last night "Are you reading that book *again*?" "Pffft. Yeah, what of it?"

  6. I can't help you with a selection but I have to say I'm impressed with all you have read. I enjoy reading but I go through periods where I could care less or they put me right to sleep. Unfortunately that doesn't allow me to finish too many books in a years time. :)

  7. I'm 1/3 of the way through Eclipse (loving all of them, btw). I have read all of SEP's books (that I know of) and loved them, and IMO Nora Roberts is the queen. I think my fave is High Noon but I could debate that all afternoon because I adore a couple of her trilogies, too.So, anyway... I'm a fiction girl. I'm a lightweight fiction girl. But my recommendation for your book club is...Loving Frank by Nancy HoranIt's a fictionalized true story about Frank Lloyd Wright's relationship with a woman named Mamah Cheney. It is SO good. I listened to it in the car on the way to Thanksgiving at my parents and I had to sit at the side of the road for about half an hour so I could finish it before I got there. It's not my type of book but I enjoyed listening to it so much that I am going to buy a copy of the book for my very own. To keep. To read again every year or two. Forever and ever amen.So. good.

  8. A book club sounds like so much fun! Here's my two cents: Pick something you haven't read, but something you have wanted to try...i.e. A new author, a new title, something that was recommended, whatever. The best part about a book club is trying something totally new and seeing what others think as well. Now to find one here...

  12. Have you read any Julie Garwood? Only drawback I have found is that you can read through her books in a flash! Good luck with the book. I'm a rebel. Try something new.

  13. I think you would love the Five Hundred Kingdom series by Mercedes Lackey. I know, she's sci-fi/fantasy but this series is part of the Luna romance line. The first is called "The Fairy Godmother". It's basically how fairy godmothers are made. Great series - puts a different spin on the fairy tales and myths you heard as a child.

  14. I usually like some murder with my romance! I enjoyed the Francesca Cahill Series by Brenda Joyce. The first book of the series is Deadly Love. It is historical fiction taking place at around 1900. Let us know what you choose!

  15. Sorry, but romance novels just aren't me. The first time someone swoons with desire I'm gone. But I would definitely pick something new, by a new author for your book club, hopefully something no one has read.

  19. Well, I too love the romances, so I'm busily writing down what everyone has suggested. (The only thing I can't stand are the cover photos. I'll read romances...but I just don't want everyone else to know that I read them. Couldn't they put a normal cover on them?!)Do you ever read the JD Robb In Death books? It's really Nora Roberts writing under another name, but they're crime novels set in the future (I know, it sounds weird. Trust me on this though- FABULOUS!) Plus there's a million of them, so you can really get involved with the characters. PS- Can I join your book club, or do I have to actually, you know, physically know you? Maybe you could just pass along the titles of what you're reading. I'm always looking for new authors.

  20. Have you ever read anything by Joshilyn Jackson? Her's tend to be set in the south with interesting characters and plot twists. Good chick lit.

  21. Book recommendations - The Outlander Series, by Diana Gabaldon. Seriously... I re-read these books over and over. Once you fall in love with them, you are hooked for life. People become seriously obsessed with them! For fast romance reads (I loved the 4 Seasons by Kleypas, Autumn esp!) I like Julia Quinn's Bridgerton novels. Fun and well written!
