I don't do early. But I wish I did.

I love really early mornings and the utter peace and quiet of them. I love feeling as if I’m the only person in the world awake at that moment. Almost as if I’m the only person in the world, period. Just me and my lazy cats.

I wish I could wake up early enough each day to enjoy at least one hour of darkness before the sun starts to lighten the day. I’d sit by the window with a cup of coffee close by... and not because I need it, but because it’s the cool adult thing to do. (And if I couldn’t be cool in my teens, then I’d at least like to be cool as I start to eye thirty angrily from across the room.)

I'd flip on the computer and read or write or spend a happy hour searching for anything Twilight-related as the sky turned from black to dark blue, from dark blue to gray as dawn spread across the overcast sky.

Much later, I'd nap. Sometime during the middle of the day, during the warmest hours of the day. I'd fall asleep on the sofa with the sun shining through the windows while everyone else is at work.

That would be nice.

But the sad truth is that I wasn’t scheduled to work until ten o'clock this morning, I set my alarm for 8:30 and I still hit the snooze when the damn thing jolted me awake.

Mornings and me... we just don't get along.

(Luke. Luke knows how to nap.)

  1. During the school year I have to get up at 6:15am, before sunrise for much of the school year. But, I don't really get to enjoy it because of the hustle and bustle of making sure everyone is doing what they need to do before the school buses come. During the summer I would love to get up early and enjoy the beginnings of the day, but I can't pry myself out of bed!Luke looks like an expert napper!

  2. I also wish I were a morning person. I'd love to start my day by taking the dog for a nice, long, early morning walk and then getting a cup of coffee before having to do the parenting thing. But I just can't make myself get out of bed until that little voice screams from down the hall.

  4. Hate to say it, but you're right. Early morning is the bomb. I'm up by 5 every morning so I can walk Cutter and Tug while it's still cool and quiet and the Tourons are all still sleeping. When I get back there's still plenty of time to read or check e-mails and drink coffee until I gotta wake up Miss Carol.By far the bitchiness best time of day.

  5. This morning, my alarm went off at 430. I slept in today because I was skipping my gym workout. I put on the coffee while I showered and got dressed. Then I sat and enjoyed my coffee while I watched TV to see what happened over night. I love mornings. I usually get up at 330 and workout at the gym before work.

  6. It's 11:09am and I'm still in my jammies. I haven't brushed my teeth, and my kids have only just been fed their breakfast. I love mornings too - mine just seem to be happening a little bit later than the rest of the world.

  7. I am SO RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. On the rare occasion that I do get up early it's only for some life changing experience. I wouldn't have the luxury of sitting on the couch and enjoying the dawn. I have done it before though and it is wonderful. However I do not remember when it did happen so I'm guessing that it was a long long time ago. I am a slave to sleep. If sleeping in was an Olympic sport no one could get the gold from me. Ever.

  8. Mornings and me have never gotten along either. For that matter late nights and me don't get alone well. I need sleep.
