Butter and brown sugar. Need I say more?

Do you want to know something? I've never browned butter before. I know! Actually, I'm not sure it's all that common a thing to do. Does everyone just sit around browning butter? If not, they should! The aroma is amazing.

I made Smitten Kitchen's brown butter brown sugar shorties on Sunday. I couldn't wait. As soon as I saw the ingredients, there was no holding me back. I love butter and brown sugar more than anything. My obsession with this duo is quite unhealthy. But it's fantastic.

My all time favorite candy from See's is a rich chocolate-drenched buttery brown-sugary concoction that I can't get enough of. The only problem with buying them is that I don't stop after a couple. I walk out with many other delicious chocolates that neither I, nor my hips, need. It's a real tragedy, I tell you.

And I made this brown sugar candy recipe on my birthday. Oh mama. I ate it all. By myself. Then cried on my husband's shoulder. "I have a problem!" I wailed. He patted my head and tried to console me and very comfortingly said, "yes, you do."

I can't help it. The flavor of these two amazing ingredients melding together is pure bliss.

That is all.

  1. Bordeuxs are my all time fav candy from Sees, hands down. I buy them at the airport in San Diego when I come home. Did you know they sell them in the airport after the security gate so you can bring them on the plane?

  2. You have great taste in chocolate! But, how are you on willpower? I have none and would buy a box every time I got on the plain.

  3. Oh man. I tried to make these and fell into the "but they spread out into a puddle" camp. Have you read the recent comments for this recipe on sk? Someone did their research and attributed the spreading to too many changes in the temperature of the butter. After browning, mine went into the refrigerator overnight, then soft again to make the dough, then to the freezer for a few days, then to the refrigerator, then to the baking sheet. Next time I'll make them right away. Yours look great!

  4. Real quick- I totally just realized I spelled plane like "plain." Yeah, ok. I'm dumb. Forgive me.Kelley, I read some of the comments before making them. I followed the directions almost to a T. I took the browned butter out of the fridge after the one hour, mixed the rest of the ingredients, then put it back in the fridge. It might have been in there longer than suggested, but not by much. Try them again. They're worth it!
