Chocolate Pecan Toffee Bars

Let me just start by saying one thing. There is no lemon anywhere in this recipe. Just pure decadent chocolatey melt-in-your-mouth goodness that might just bring you to tears. They're that good.

I was bored and browsing blogs yesterday when I stumbled upon this one. And the third recipe down? These amazing Chocolate Pecan Toffee Bars. So, what did I do besides drool all over my keyboard? Well, I bolted from work early and ran home to make these little morsels of sin.

And, despite the fact that THEY HAVE NUTS (oh, the horror!), The Husband still ate nine of them. Okay, more like three, but still. He's not a sweets guy, so that's saying a lot.

The directions for this recipe really confused me. Granted, most directions confuse me, so I'm sure a normal person would have no problem, but... I got confused. I'm sure I did something wrong (I found the dough hard to handle) (much like me) (ha), but they came out so rich and gooey and delicious that I just don't care. But, I thought I should warn you in case you can't control yourself either and run off to make these immediately.

Just don't be like me and eat so many you make yourself ill afterwards. Ahh, what the hell. Do it. They're totally worth it.

Now tell me this... Nuts? Or no nuts?

  1. I generally leave the nuts out. I don't hate things with nuts in them, but there are so many people with nut allergies, that if I'm going to share I leave the nuts out(and if I didn't share, who would eat all of the good but not quite good for you treats?). I've also been known to leave rasins out of oatmeal cookies.

  2. Nuts in. I love nuts. I hated them when I was growing up, but now I find a recipe like that lacking if it doesn't have nuts in it.If you actually know people who have nut allergies, make 1/2 with, and 1/2 without.

  3. Oh hell yeah nuts. And I'm not even really into nuts bet they difinitly add to a recipe like this.

  4. OK, first I have to get the 13-year-old giggle that came out when I read "nuts? or no nuts?" If 30 is the new 20, then 43 (almost 44) is the new 13 because EVERYTHING is dirty/naughty/funny to me these days. So, ahem... since they are pecans, yes, nuts. I don't like nuts *giggle* (see???) but I can tolerate pecans and I can see that they are an integral part of this recipe. Then again, I might have to try these without the nuts.

  6. Violet, you are so funny! Or maybe I find it funny because I giggled about it, too? Anyway. I have a confession to make. I don't think I'm a fan of nuts in my dessert. Growing up, I didn't like nuts. Period. Since I love them now, I thought I had grown and matured and would actually like the pecans in this recipe. I didn't. I know. I'm a loser. You know what I can't get enough of? Almonds and pecans that are glazed with cinnimon and sugar and roasted. Holy crap. Words don't do 'em justice.

  7. My husband doesn't like nuts in food products but there are times when you just have to include them. I think I might run upstairs and use some of the left over holiday pecans in my freezer in this recipe. Looks fabulous.

  11. SurprisingWoman, I had to make these so I could use my left over holiday pecans! And I'm so glad I did. ;)The Cotton Wife, how ironic! I'm married to a big baby, too! Although maybe not so ironic as I happen to believe most men are big babies. (Sorry, men!) (If there are any out there, that is.)Puna, good point! Protein. So, I can eat eight more, right?
